Exercise key to long, happy life

Here's yet another "no sh*t!" story.

In a paper recently published in the

British Journal of Sports Medicine, researchers from The University of Western Australia found that 150 minutes of vigorous physical activity per week added two to three years to the lives of those men who remained physically active for the duration of the 13-year study.

Before you reach for your calculator, I'll do the math for you. 150 minutes in 2.5 hours, or an average of 25 mins/day for 6 days a week. In case you still haven't made the correlation, may I remind you on 2 of Beachbody's newest (or soon to be released) programs - Focus T25 and P90X3 .

One of the main things that most people seem to comment on, whenever I mention the benefits of exercise extending your life is, "Yeah, but who wants to live that long anyways?!?" Let me remind you that leading a healthy lifestyle is not just about extending your life, but also improving the quality of your life.

"So not only were active people more likely than non-active people to survive, but those who were alive and active when we followed up had reached old age in good shape, without evidence of depression or of cognitive or functional problems," lead author Professor Osvaldo Almeida said.

The article goes on to say that even those who picked up the habit of exercising regularly, later in the study, saw tremendous benefits from getting active. However, those that 'fell off the wagon,' so to speak, lost the benefits. So you are definitely encouraged to follow a realistic, engaging, well-structured program that will keep you active consistently.
