Tough Mudder Tactics: Glory Blades

I took part in my third Tough Mudder event (Tough Mudder Toronto) on Saturday May 11th 2013 at Mount Saint Louis Moonstone ski resort. This is an obstacle that I encountered for the first time.

Glory blades is essentially Berlin Walls, made harder. The Glory Blade walls are about 8 feet high, but they are placed on a 25-30 degree inline towards you. The reason why this becomes more difficult than your standard run-of-the-mill Berlin Wall is because the incline does not allow any sort of leverage to be gained.

With a standard Berlin Wall, you have the opportunity to either step on a wooden ledge, or the very least use a bit of friction on the wall to try and gain momentum upwards to propel yourself over.

With Glory Blades, since the wall is inclined towards you, you essentially have to use all upper body strength to get up and over. Either that, or teamwork. I would imagine that most people encountering this obstacle will need the help of either teammates or fellow Mudders to help give them a boost up and over the wall. Once you make it over the first one, you need to prove that it wasn't a fluke and do it once more, as there are 2 walls to overcome.
