Hey Everyone

Welcome to 2014! Happy New Year to all of you. I hope you all behaved yourselves last night.

With a New Year, comes yet another chance to reflect on where you currently stand, and where you are headed. This is true, not only for our careers and our education, but our health and lifestyles as well.

It is no secret that this is a popular time of year for people to make resolutions to improve their overall health. Luckily for all of you, being a part of this team, and this company (Beachbody), we have a lot of resources at your disposal to not only set goals for yourself, but to get the motivation and support to get there.

Beyond being a Beachbody Coach, I want to remind all of you that I am also a personal trainer, who has helped men and women of all ages reach their goals time and time again. I enjoy helping people lead healthier lifestyles and give them the tools to reach their goals, so please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions/comments/concerns you may have.

This week's topics of interest:

1. Both the P90X3 and Focus T25 Challenge Packs are on sale during the month of January. Both are $180 (over $90 in savings). Links should be live tomorrow (January 2nd). E-mail me if you are interested in either one. Challenge Packs offer tremendous value, not to mention getting Shakeology into your diet to start the year off right!

2. Speaking of Shakeology. There are 3 supplements that I take, that if someone asks me my go-to supplements, these are the 3. Creatine, Whey Protein, and Shakeology. That is what I base my entire diet around. Shakeology is my "insurance plan" for those days when I may not have gotten all of my fruits and vegetable servings in, I know it is backing me up. Remember that Shakeology comes with a "Bottom of the bag guarantee," so even if you aren't a fan, or don't feel as though it made any difference in your life during your 30 servings, you can return it for a full refund! How many products back up their reputation like that? Do yourself a favour and give Shakeology a shot. Start the year off with just 1 bag. Give it an honest try for 30 days, with regular exercise, and let me know how you feel after you're done. Make sure to order on "Home Direct" to get free shipping, you can cancel at ANY time, no penalties.

3. I just finished my 2nd week of P90X3, you can check out my progress video here.

4. I have completed my complete in-depth written reviews for P90X3 Total Synergistics and P90X3 Agility X.

5. If any of you have been thinking about becoming a Beachbody Coach and helping others, trust me when I tell you that NOW is the time to do it. This time of year, is of course, the busiest time of year for people to make and aim for goals that they set for themselves. As a Beachbody Coach, you have the opportunity to help others by providing them with solutions to problems faced by so many. Join our team and get plugged into my January 6th Coach Basics Training.

And 2 favors that I ask:

1) If you like the hard work I put into writing my blogs and videos, PLEASE help me out by sharing them.  Click the share links below them and share them on FB, Twitter, etc.  It really helps me get more exposure and grow our team!

2) Also, as always, remember that the way I benefit from being your coach is that I earn a commission from any Beachbody products that you purchase, as long as you buy them through my site, tylerrobbinsfitness.com. Hey Everybody

Wow, what an opening day for P90X3 yesterday! I know for a fact that the Team Beachbody website is still reeling after the amount of traffic it saw yesterday. Things should be better today for those of you who had troubles ordering yesterday. The initial rush should be slowed down now, although there is still going to be a HUGE demand in the coming days/weeks/months!

I want to personally thank all of you who not only purchased (or are going to purchase) P90X3 through me, but any other purchases you make through me as well. That is how I make a small return for the hard work I put forth helping all of you stay motivated, accountable, and in my mind, the most important part (and one fact that a LOT of Coaches miss) - educated on everything health and fitness!

With the holiday season underway, or almost underway, we now start to look ahead to the New Year and the goals/improvements we all wish to make. I know for a fact that I am going to be chomping at the bit to get going with X3, so I will more than likely start it as soon as it arrives - hopefully no later than December 22nd. Yes, for those of you asking, I will be doing LOTS of video updates along the way.

Let's cover this week's topics:

1. If you tried to order P90X3 yesterday and were bogged down by the website, make sure you try again today. There should be a lot less traffic now that the original rush is slowing. Please remember, if you did NOT receive a confirmation order and e-mail at the end of your purchase yesterday then your order probably did not go through. If you are uncertain, let me know and I will check my records to see if your order went through. Here are your P90X3 purchasing options.

2. Make sure you check out all of the latest news about P90X3. Yesterday I added the various training schedules as well as the workout sheets - a good idea of what you're in for!

3. If you are still mulling over what P90X3 option to get, let me convince you on how great of a deal the P90X3 Challenge Pack is. You get the Base Kit, your first month of Shakeology, a free 30-day trial membership to a Club Membership as well as the option to upgrade to Coach status for free ($39.95 value). For those of you interested in not only that, but also joining my 60-Day Coach Training Academy, let me know as my next class starts on Monday January 6th 2014. It is a great way to learn the ins and outs of the business and hit the ground running.

4. If you haven't already, make sure you check out our P90X3 Challenge Group. This one will be rockin' with excitement/motivation in the coming weeks as everyone gets their copy of X3 and gets ready to do battle. We're currently sitting at 25 members strong!

My Fitness Journey (so far)...

I have been blogging and vlogging for a few years now, with many of you following me throughout, but I have also had a lot of you just recently stumble upon either my website, Facebook page, or Youtube Channel. A lot of people don't realize the fitness journey that I have been taking (thus far), so I figured I would give a refresher course as to where I am coming from, where I currently stand, and where I am currently heading!

I guess you could say that I have not been your traditional "Beachbody transformation success story", as I have never been one to need to lose a lot of weight. Growing up, I was always an active kid. Consistently, every summer I would play rep (competitive) soccer, and then in the winter I would play rep  (competitive) hockey. My diet wasn't the greatest growing up, but I was a naturally skinny kid (nicknamed "skin and bones" by my family) and was active all the time, so if anything, I struggled to keep my weight up.

Holidays January 2006

Holidays January 2006

My love and passion for soccer ended up taking me College, as I earned a scholarship to play NAIA Division 2 soccer. At College, I graduate in 3 years (2003-2006), earning my B.Sc. in Biochemistry: Pre-Medical. Playing Varsity soccer was not entirely successful, as I had to sit out my 2nd season with a debilitating back injury that ended up requiring surgery (December 2004). I worked hard to re-hab in the off-season, and returned for my 3rd, and final season, but soon after graduation, I started developing some pretty bad habits.

I never really worried about working out when I was younger, as playing sports naturally kept me active. Once I graduated and settled into a full-time job, my exercising definitely took a back seat, not to mention some bad eating and drinking habits. I ended up out of shape and not happy with my lifestyle.

P90XLogo_hi_res.jpg

My poor lifestyle choices even lead to some pretty bad bouts of depression and anxiety! That moment clicked, when I realized that I could not keep continuing on my current path, so one morning, like so many others, I saw the infomercial for P90X!

September 2009

September 2009

When I first started P90X, I was totally and completely baffled by how "out of shape" I actually was. I always assumed that I was in shape, and a decent athlete, so I really didn't think that a home workout program would be this challenging! I worked hard at the program and made it through a few rounds, but my diet was certainly lacking.  Although I was in pretty decent shape, and was playing in a men's league competitive soccer, I didn't look the way I wanted to, and knew that there was something else that I needed to change besides just working out. I needed to start focusing on my diet, as that was just as much of a contributing factor, of not more so than exercise alone!

September 2010

September 2010

The P90X workouts started getting easier, and I was definitely improving. I went from being able to barely eek out 5 chin-ups in one set to cranking out 8+ every set during a workout. I was feeling good about myself, but still not looking the greatest.

I was starting to realize the importance of fuelling m body though. I started to make the connection between nutrition to perform, look, and feel better rather than to just fill my gut. In the mean time, I was growing my Beachbody workout library. By the end of 2010, I was starting to collect Tony Horton's One on One Series, as well as use the P90X+ series. I also competed my first ever half marathon in October 2010!

In 2011 I did Shaun T's Insanity series followed by Insanity: The Asylum (see my final results video here).

Throughout 2011, I dabbled with various hybrids, also training for Warrior Dash (July 2011), and then my 2nd half marathon in October 2011.

In December 2011, after my son Evan was born, I stumbled upon the promotional video for the World's Toughest Mudder from just a few weeks prior. I immediately knew that this was what I wanted to do next year!

February 2012 (post-P90X2)

February 2012 (post-P90X2)

A week after my son was born, my copy of P90X2 arrived, and I jumped into that program right away. P90X2 quickly became one of my favourite programs from Beachbody, due to the immense amount of thought and science that they put into it. I knew that this (P90X2) would be a great tool for me to use in my training goals to reach the World's Toughest Mudder in 2012.

August 2012, just a few days prior to Tough Mudder Toronto

August 2012, just a few days prior to Tough Mudder Toronto

I signed up for Tough Mudder Toronto, to compete in August 2012, and immediately began training it. I also competed in my 2nd Warrior Dash in July 2012, as a sort of lead-up to Tough Mudder. In the back of my mind, I knew I wanted to qualify for the World's Toughest Mudder by finishing in the top 5% of the participants, so I trained hard throughout 2012 in order to qualify.

My goal was achieved when I received word from Tough Mudder Headquarters that I did in fact qualify for the World's Toughest Mudder!

There was no time to rest after I returned from Tough Mudder Toronto, as I almost immediately jumped into training to 'bridge' my fitness between Tough Mudder Toronto to the World's Toughest Mudder which was taking place in November.

December 2012, following World's Toughest Mudder

December 2012, following World's Toughest Mudder

My training went well, although there was a lot of endurance training, and I lost more weight than what I had anticipated. I went on to compete at the World's Toughest Mudder 2012 and came home ready for my new goals.

November was also the month that I began taking Shakeology.  I will be honest, I was pretty skeptical of Shakeology before I started it. I have always been a fan of Beachbody and their products, but I got so sick and tired of so many different Coaches literally trying to pour the stuff down my throat!

When I became a Beachbody Coach myself on October 1st 2012, I didn't even sign up for Shakeology at that time. But after a month, I realized that there was no point bad-mouthing the product unless I gave it a good, honest, 30-day sample. I haven't turned back since!

Since I had lost quite a bit of weight during my WTM training, as well as at the event itself, the timing to start Beachbody's program Body Beast, along with using Shakeology as a nutritional aide, could not have been better!

Thinking back to when I was younger, I have always been naturally skinny, so I was really looking forward to a program like Body Beast to see what kind of results (if any) I could get with it. I became a huge fan of the program right away, and, well...I think the results will do all of the talking!

After I completed Body Beast, I have played around with a few different modifications to the program, and have recently started my own strength training program, combined with Shaun T's latest program Focus T25!

I go back and look at how far I have come over these past few years. Not only have I changed my physical appearance a few times, but I have also changed mentally. I now see exercise as not only a way to 'treat' myself, but to also challenge myself and to compete! I enjoy feeling good, looking good, and challenging myself in new ways possible. I hope that I encourage and inspire all of you to go out and do the same!

Weekly Newsletter

Hello Everyone

How is everyone doing with their health and fitness goals? Did you know that the first official day of summer is right around the corner? Think back to the number of times in previous years where you covered yourself up at the beach or the pool because you were self conscious about your body. How many more times are you going to do that before you finally make a change?

I am not one who thinks that people should diet/exercise for cosmetic reasons (alone), because striving for "perfection" is unattainable. However, I feel that by gaining confidence in yourself and enjoying the body that you are in does WONDERS for how you feel and carry yourself.

Anyways, on to this week's topics:

1. For those of you who are still not aware, I will be attending the World's Toughest Mudder again this year. Tough Mudder actually recently released an AWESOME promotional video for the event, that I feel really captures the spirit/feeling of the day. Anyways, last year, I had an amazing display of support from many of you who stepped forward and sponsored me for the event so that I could help recover some of the costs associated with competing in an event like this. Although I have some of the equipment needed for this event from last year, I still have some costs that I need to cover, so if any of you are gracious enough to sponsor me, any little bit counts, and I will be forever grateful!

2. There are just a few weeks left in the month to take advantage of the Les Mills Combat Challenge Pack promotion this month. The CP is priced at just $140, which is over $70 savings if you were to purchase the program/Shakeology separately. Not only that, but if you have been thinking about becoming a Coach, don't forget that anyone who purchases a Challenge Pack has the option to upgrade to "Coach" status for free ($40 value), pushing your savings to over $110!

3. Next Wednesday June 19th, I will be heading to Las Vegas for this year's Beachbody Coach Summit. Keep an eye out on my social media sites, as well as my blog (all links below) for any news/tidbits that I gather while I am there. I will be doing my best to post as often as I can with all the cool news and all things Beachbody!

4. Keep an eye out for Monday's blog, as I will be posting version 1 of my World's Toughest Mudder training schedule.

5. Word on the street is that Focus T25 will be available to Beachbody Coaches (who are not attending Summit) on Monday June 24th. No date yet (that I know of) for regular customers. If you are interested in Coaching, let me know!

Tough Mudder Tactics: Cage Crawl

I took part in my third Tough Mudder event (Tough Mudder Toronto) on Saturday May 11th 2013 at Mount Saint Louis Moonstone ski resort. This is an obstacle that I encountered for the first time.

Cage Crawl is a funny obstacle for me. It is not inherently difficult by any means, but I did not really enjoy it at all. I have always had problems with my ears, and get water trapped in them all the time, so it probably isn't much of a surprise that this one bothered me.

cage crawl.jpg

With Cage Crawl, you are to get into a pool of muddy water, lay on your back, and 'crawl' your way under a cage from one end to the other. Along the way, you pull yourself along by using the very cage that is holding you hostage.

The obstacle actually works quite well since you basically float or skim across the top of the water as you try and keep your face as close to the cage as possible. That way you can, you know...breathe!

When I got out of the water at the opposite end and stood up, I felt quite dizzy for a few minutes afterwards. I was still able to job, and was not tripping over myself by any means, but the dizzy sensation was definitely there.

Maybe I am just a huge sissy, because my running partner, my wife, remarked at how she felt the obstacle was very relaxing...go figure!

Tough Mudder Tactics: Smoke Chute

I took part in my third Tough Mudder event (Tough Mudder Toronto) on Saturday May 11th 2013 at Mount Saint Louis Moonstone ski resort. This is an obstacle that I encountered for the first time.

smoke chute.jpg

Smoke Chute is another obstacle I encountered at World's Toughest Mudder, but this is a new obstacle at Tough Mudder Toronto. Basically, you are sliding down an enclosed slide, coming out of the bottom into a muddy pool.

Not a whole lot to do here but to climb up the ladder and slide down the chute. I will, however, give you some advice that I have found worked for me in the past.

As you enter the slide, actually slide down turning your body on a bit of an angle so that you can brace one hand on the 'front' of the chute, and one hand on the 'back' of the chute, or the slide part. I find this helps to protect your head so that you don't smack it on either the front, the back, or the walls as you slide down.

The fella in the pic above actually has both of his hands braced on the front of the chute, which may cause his head to whiplash back into the slide as he hits the scoop at the bottom.

Tough Mudder Tactics: Balls to the Wall

balls to the wall.jpg

I took part in my third Tough Mudder event (Tough Mudder Toronto) on Saturday May 11th 2013 at Mount Saint Louis Moonstone ski resort. This is an obstacle that I encountered for the first time.

Balls to the Wall is an obstacle that I have actually encountered before, but it was a much different version at last year's World's Toughest Mudder when compared to the one I experienced at Tough Mudder Toronto Spring 2013.

With Balls to the Wall, your goal is to climb up and over a big wooden wall using the 2x4 'steps' and rope to help you both ascend, and descend the wall.

The obstacle really was quite straight-forward, and if anything I was actually quite disappointed with the difficulty of it due to my previous experience with this obstacle at World's Toughest Mudder.

You'll notice in the picture above, that the wall has 4 'steps' to help you reach the top, along with the rope to help you. At WTM, there was only 2 steps, spaced much further apart, causing you to put much more emphasis on the upper body strength to get up. That is also where my calves seized up on me for the first (of many) time in that competition!

Tough Mudder Tactics: Fire Walker

I took part in my third Tough Mudder event (Tough Mudder Toronto) on Saturday May 11th 2013 at Mount Saint Louis Moonstone ski resort. This is an obstacle that I encountered for the first time.

firewalker.jpg

Firewalker was a fun obstacle. It really did/does make you feel like you are an action star. As you approach the obstacle, you will no doubt see the flames and smoke from the fire at the top of the ramp. Your job is to run up to the fire, leap over it and land in a pool below.

I will say that the pool waiting for me on the other side was not as deep as what I would have expected considering I was jumping from a few feet up. I bottomed-out in the pool rather easily as it was only 4 feet deep or so. So, if you are encountering this obstacle, make sure to be aware of the shallow pool below!

Tough Mudder Tactics: Glory Blades

I took part in my third Tough Mudder event (Tough Mudder Toronto) on Saturday May 11th 2013 at Mount Saint Louis Moonstone ski resort. This is an obstacle that I encountered for the first time.

glory blades.jpg

Glory blades is essentially Berlin Walls, made harder. The Glory Blade walls are about 8 feet high, but they are placed on a 25-30 degree inline towards you. The reason why this becomes more difficult than your standard run-of-the-mill Berlin Wall is because the incline does not allow any sort of leverage to be gained.

With a standard Berlin Wall, you have the opportunity to either step on a wooden ledge, or the very least use a bit of friction on the wall to try and gain momentum upwards to propel yourself over.

With Glory Blades, since the wall is inclined towards you, you essentially have to use all upper body strength to get up and over. Either that, or teamwork. I would imagine that most people encountering this obstacle will need the help of either teammates or fellow Mudders to help give them a boost up and over the wall. Once you make it over the first one, you need to prove that it wasn't a fluke and do it once more, as there are 2 walls to overcome.

Hey Everybody!

Half-way through May. How is everyone's health/fitness goals coming? The official first day of summer is just over a month away, are you getting prepared to look/feel your best? I have never been one to promote a healthy lifestyle simply to look good, but so many people spend so much of their time uncomfortable in their own bodies, that it really does take away some of their enjoyment of the summer. What I'm saying is, you don't have to look like a supermodel, but you should certainly feel like one. When you feel better about yourself, your mood and how you perceive yourself goes through the roof!

Topics of interest this week:

1. Today is the last day to commit to my 30-day Shakeology Challenge. I would like all interested participants to place their order of Shakeology so that we can begin the Challenge no later than Wednesday May 22nd. That gives us a full 30 days of Shakeology goodness before the official first day of summer (Friday June 21st!)

2. My May "Win a copy of Shaun T's Focus T25" contest is still going strong! You have less than 2 weeks left to try and earn as many entries as you can to win an early copy of this program. Keep an eye out on my Facebook page over the next few weeks, I will be posting the link to the contest and asking people to "share" it to earn bonus entries into the contest. The more entries you earn, the better chance you have at winning!

3. This past Saturday, I completed my third Tough Mudder event. This time around my wife competed with me. It was cold, it was miserable, and it was TOUGH, but we made it. I am extremely proud of my wife, she did amazing, especially considering the conditions we competed in. For full details on the event, check out the blog link below.

4. For those of you who still haven't joined, make sure to check out our Facebook Accountability Group. We are now 46 members strong, with some amazing people staying motivated and accountable! This is a great way to stay motivated, accountable, and inspired to push play and stay active even on those days when you just don't feel like it!

Beachbody's Body Beast Bulk Chest Modifications
Beachbody's Body Beast Bulk Back Modifications

And 2 favors that I ask:

1) If you like the hard work I put into writing my blogs and videos, PLEASE help me out by sharing them.  Click the share links below them and share them on FB, Twitter, etc.  It really helps me get more exposure and grow our team!

2) Also, as always, remember that the way I benefit from being your coach is that I earn a commission from any Beachbody products that you purchase, as long as you buy them through my site, tylerrobbinsfitness.com. It helps with the amount of time I spend answering all your questions, writing my blogs, filming my videos, and helping you out. Thank you! I really appreciate it!

Everyone have a great week. As usual, let me know if you have any questions/comments/concerns.

Weekly Newsletter

Hello Everyone!

How is everyone doing this week? Here in Southern Ontario, we have been having some AMAZING weather lately. Hopefully the weather still holds up this weekend as I am running my 3rd Tough Mudder event, this time with my wife. We run in the very first heat Saturday morning (8am), I am really looking forward to it.

There are lots of exciting things going on during the month of May, below is a list of things in case you missed anything.

1. During the month of May, you all have a chance to win a copy of Shaun T's Focus T25

before it is released to the public! All of the details can be found here. Basically, the more you get involved with my team, the better your chances are at winning!

2. I am starting a 30-day Shakeology Challenge. I know a lot of you reading this e-mail have tried a sample that I have sent you, but you are either waiting or are hesitant to buy. I will say that samples are sent just so you can get a basic idea of the taste. You truly do need to take Shakeology for a full 30 straight days to get a full understanding of how it can help you. That is why Beachbody offers a "Bottom of the Bag Guarantee". If you are not satisfied with Shakeology after taking for 30 days, then you can return the bag (even if it's empty) for a full refund!

All I am asking from all of you, is if you are interested, commit to 30 days of replacing one meal or snack a day with Shakeology (along with consistent exercise) and see how you feel. I have planned this Challenge to start no later than Wednesday May 22nd so that the Challenge will conclude just in time for the official first day of Summer - Friday June 21st! What have you got to lose? All the details are here.

3. Here are Beachbody's May Promotions. Tai Cheng may not be for everyone, but you may have a family member that could benefit from this program. Think of it this way, you could purchase the Challenge Pack, give the copy of Tai Cheng to your family member and keep the Shakeology for yourself (participating in my Challenge) if you wish. Not only that, but anyone who purchases a Challenge Pack has the option of upgrading to Coach Status for free ($40 value)!

4. I spotted this Tweet from Beachbody last week: "@TBBCoach411: 630 new Coaches in the last 24hrs!" I have personally witnessed the incredible growth this company is experiencing! I am beyond excited to be a part of it, and take part in something like Coach Summit 2013! There are so many passionate, dedicated individuals already working for this company, with many of you out there who would make great Coaches as well. If you are at all interested in Coaching, contact me to find out how you can be involved with this fantastic opportunity! This company is not slowing down...becoming a Coach now and having a team grow beneath you is an amazing experience!

5. Beachbody has updated their Greenberry Shakeology. I have not personally tried it, but if there is enough interest from all of you, I can pick up some samples and send them out to you. Let me know!
